Publications are received as a benefit of membership in the International Society of Limnology. Publications are triennial. Previous regulations (prior to 1983) were: payment in a year in which a congress is held and the subsequent year entitles members to the Proceedings (Verhandlungen). Payment in the third year of the triennium entitles members to the Communications (Mitteilungen). After 1983, members must be in good standing for all three years of a triennium in order to receive SIL publications.
Purchase of past publications by members is usually limited to payment of dues for three (3) years preceding the year of joining SIL. Retroactive payment of fees must be made to the SIL Business Services Coordinator or National Representative at the current annual rate for ordinary members (Sodales) and institutional members (Sodales adjuncti).
Payment of dues is required each year whether journals are received that year or not.

Nearly all earlier publications may be purchased from our publisher E. Schweizerbart'sche Verlagsbuchhandlung, Johannesstrasse 3A, 7000 Stuttgart 1, Federal Republic of Germany at a discount (25%) to members. Volumes 1,2,3 and 13 of the Verhandlungen have been reprinted by Swets & Zeitlinger N.V., Keizersgracht 471 and 487, Amsterdam.
The official currency of SIL is in Swiss Francs. Exchange rates are determined as of 1 November of the year preceding the membership calendar year.

* Proceedings of the 30 th Congress held in Montréal, Canada 2007 (Proceedings 30) and **Communications of the triennium, if finances permit, are distributed to members that have paid dues for the entire triennium.
Congress Proceedings
Lectures are published in full in the Proceedings (Verhandlungen Internationale Vereinigung für theoretische und angewandte Limnologie) in either English, French, or German. This compendium gives readers not only recent views on the major problems and controversies in limnology but also a comprehensive summary of much of the current research in the field of freshwater biology.
PLEASE NOTE: The Proceedings of a congress, now in large volumes of over 3,500 pages, appear approximately 18 months from the time of the meetings for the normal sequence of completion (editorial processing, typesetting, figure processing, proofing by authors, additional editorial proofing, collection of excess page charges, printing, collation, binding, and distribution by surface mail from Germany).

Irregular Communications were initiated in 1953 as the Mitteilungen Internationale Vereinigung für theoretische und angewandte Limnologie and are concerned with methodology and proceedings of symposia associated with SIL. These Communications are published as finances of SIL permit.
